She was born in Crowell, Texas October 7, 1925 to parents Homer Richard Zeibig and Velma B. Meadors Zeibig.Jo was a fourth generation resident of Foard County, Texas. She grew up on the family farm homesteaded by her Great-great grandfather in 1886. She graduated from Crowell High School in 1943. In 1947 she graduated from Howard Payne University with a business degree and a teaching certificate. Jo earned a master's degree in special education from Texas Woman's University in Denton. She and Clark Osvel Hitt, Jr. (fellow HPU graduate) married on December 19, 1947. She taught in Forney, Crowell, and Lancaster School Districts of Texas. While teaching in Richardson ISD she and two other teachers were asked by Superintendent J.J. Pearce to create the first special education program in the district. From there, she moved to the Region 10 Education Service Center in Richardson as Coordinator of Special Education. Jo then worked at the University of Texas, Dallas where she co-authored a book on training teachers of visually impaired students. In the 1970s she worked at Region 9 in Wichita Falls, followed by three years at Region 18 in Midland. Jo ended her education career with the Department of Defense Dependents Schools (DoDDS) bringing military base schools into compliance with special education guidelines. This assignment allowed her and Clark to travel to such places as Panama, Bermuda, Newfoundland, Iceland, the Island of Antigua and Guantánamo Bay, Cuba (GTMO).Jo spent many years supporting her husband Clark's interests in the Army's Tenth Mountain Division Association of which he served during World War II. They were able to go on several trips to Italy for the 10th's international reunions. She was a loving mother to her two daughters and devoted wife to Clark. Chapman Crowell — Joe Allen Chapman, 62, died Monday, November 6, 2017 in Crowell, Texas. He was born June 15, 1955 in Crowell. Services will be 10 am Thursday at the First Baptist Church of Crowell. Burial will be in the Crowell Cemetery under the direction of Womack-Manard Funeral Home, Crowell, Texas.Visitation will be 6-8 Wednesday. James H. Ogle James Henry Ogle, 83, died Thursday, November 2, 2017. Memorial Services will be held at 11 am on Saturday at the Fort Belknap Electric Community Center in Olney, with Ron Rogers officiating. He served in the United States Navy. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.fallsfuneralhome.com. Danny Goodner Seymour — Danny Goodner, 71, died Monday, November 6, 2017. Viewing will be from 12-7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Cremation arrangements under the direction of Archer Funeral Home, Seymour, Texas. Survived by his wife, Maricena; a son, Shad; mother, Geneva Blanks; two brothers, Dewey and Kim; and three grandchildren.

SHE ATTENDED PUBLIC SCHOOLS THERE AND ATTENDED CLARENDON JUNIOR COLLEGE. SHE GRADUATED VALEDICTORIAN FROM CLARENDON GRADE SCHOOL, CLARENDON HIGH SCHOOL AND CLARENDON JUNIOR COLLEGE. THEN SHE SPENT TWO SUMMERS AT SIMMONS UNIVERSITY AND ONE FULL YEAR AT THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS IN AUSTIN WHERE SHE GRADUATED WITH HONORS IN 1936. AT AGE 19 SHE JOINED FORCES WITH BOB DILLARD, PRINCIPAL, AND AGATHA TAYLOR, TEACHING TWO YEARS AT THE INTERMEDIATE GRADES, AT WINDY VALLEY, SOME FOUR MILES SOUTH OF LELIA LAKE, TEXAS. THEN, FOR ONE YEAR, SHE TAUGHT AT CHAMBERLAIN SCHOOL, WHICH WAS A THREE-TEACHER SCHOOL BUT BY ATTENDING COLLEGE IN THE SUMMERS SHE EMERGED FROM UT WITH THREE YEARS OF COLLEGE AND THREE YEARS OF TEACHING. FOLLOWING HER FINAL COLLEGE YEAR SHE ACCEPTED THE POSITION OF ENGLISH TEACHER AT OZONA, TEXAS.ON FEBRUARY 20, 1937, SHE MARRIED GRADY HALBERT OF FOARD COUNTY, TEXAS. WHEN HIS FATHER, EV HALBERT, DIED IN 1939, THE COUPLE MOVED TO FOARD CITY, TEXAS WHERE GRADY BECAME MANAGER OF HIS MOTHER’S FARMS. THEY LIVED THERE AND LATER AT CROWELL, TEXAS UNTIL 2000 WHEN THEY MOVED TO WICHITA FALLS, LIVING AT ROLLING MEADOWS, A RETIREMENT CENTER.EUNICE WAS PRECEDED IN DEATH BY HER PARENTS, ONE SISTER, SYBIL AND TWO BROTHERS, HOOKER WHO DIED AT NINE MONTHS AND GILBERT WHO DIED AS A TEENAGER AND FINALLY HER HUSBAND WILLIAM GRADY HALBERT WHO DIED IN 2004.EUNICE EXCELLED IN HER GRADES, ENJOYED HIGH SCOOL AND COLLEGE PLAYS, STUDIED EXPRESSION FROM THE FOURTH GRADE UNTIL HER SENIOR SPEECH RECITAL IN 1932.
